When to Replace Your Boiler Published on March 04, 2017 Should you replace your boiler? Levy & Son is here with some signals to look for when deciding whether it’s time to invest in a new boiler. Age If your condensing boiler gets routine maintenance, you can expect it to operate about 15 years or more. Cast iron boilers can last a lot longer, even up to 50 years with proper maintenance. If your condensing boiler is coming up on 15 years or your cast iron boiler is getting close to 50 years, it may be time to discuss an upgrade. Bills If your utility bills are going up or you’re having to service your boiler more often, it could be because it’s time to buy a new, more efficient boiler. Discoloration If you see yellow flames on the gas burners and black soot on oil burners it could be a sign that the fuel is not burning correctly and could be generating carbon monoxide. If you see these issues or have any concerns about carbon monoxide in your home, you should call Levy & Son or your gas company straightaway. Comfort If some of the areas in your home are too warm or too cool and you can’t seem to control them appropriately or get them comfortable, it could be that your boiler is no longer effective and you might need to look into upgrade options.
